Emerging from the sloping ground from the back of a 1930's bungalow, this house embraces the challenges of it's constraints. Together with its existing counterpart, the new half of the structure forms a duplex: establishing new living quarters for a family that wanted independence but connectivity to their original home. The new structure is dynamic and contemporary, using an exterior steel framework to provide circulation from the lower parking level and the upper existing home. Douglas fir bridges inside and out, making the home resonate with warmth.
